Subaru has officially pulled back the curtain on its all-new electric SUV, the Uncharted, at an event in New York. Positioned as Subaru’s third all-electric vehicle after the Solterra and Trailseeker, the Uncharted is built on Toyota’s next-generation C-HR platform and is designed to be a more compact SUV than the Solterra. It aims to make a significant splash with its advanced features and competitive positioning in the rapidly expanding electric SUV market.
Distinctive Design Meets Electric Performance
The Uncharted is set to directly compete with models like the Volvo EX30 and Rivian R2S in the electric SUV segment. It proudly carries Subaru’s characteristic design language, featuring a shared lighting signature with the Solterra and Trailseeker. Notable design elements include a high shoulder line, black logos, silver bumper accents, and aggressively styled LED taillights. The vehicle will be offered with new 18-inch and 20-inch wheel options.
Underneath its stylish exterior, the Uncharted utilizes Toyota’s e-TNGA platform, specifically developed for electric vehicles. All versions come equipped with a 74.7 kWh lithium-ion battery. The car features a standard NACS charging port and supports 150 kW DC fast charging, allowing it to go from 10% to 80% charge in just 30 minutes.
Power, Range, and Trim Levels for Every Adventure
The Uncharted will be available in three distinct trim levels: Premium FWD, Sport, and GT.
- The Premium FWD (Front-Wheel Drive) version marks a notable return for Subaru, being its first FWD model in many years. This variant boasts 221 horsepower and is projected to offer an impressive range of over 492 kilometers (approximately 306 miles) on a single charge. Subaru indicates that this model will be produced in limited numbers.
- The Sport and GT versions are equipped with Subaru’s renowned symmetrical all-wheel-drive system, enhanced with X-Mode driving support. Both models deliver a robust 338 horsepower and have an estimated maximum range of 467 kilometers (approximately 290 miles). They can accelerate from 0 to 96 km/h (0-60 mph) in around 5 seconds.
Interior Comfort and Premium Features
Inside, the Uncharted features a large 14-inch touchscreen display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support as standard. Convenience is key, with two wireless phone charging pads in the front and two USB-C ports for rear passengers.
All versions come standard with the All-Weather package, which includes heated front seats, windshield wiper de-icer, and heated side mirrors. This package also adds a driver attention monitoring system and a power liftgate.
The Sport trim elevates the experience with a dual-mode X-Mode system, StarTex water-resistant upholstery, a heated steering wheel, and a panoramic surround-view camera. The top-tier GT trim offers even more luxury, including a panoramic glass roof with a motorized sunshade, 20-inch wheels, a Harman Kardon sound system, ventilated front seats, and a digital rearview mirror.
Pricing and Availability
While official pricing has yet to be released, it’s understood that Subaru aims for a starting price of under $30,000 for the Uncharted. The vehicle is expected to hit the market within 2026.
